LONELY WEEKS AHEAD...

A couple of lonely weeks ahead for me. I put dear sweet hubby on an airplane today headed to Minnesota. He'll be gone two weeks, and for me that two too many! I miss him when he's gone.

I do plan on getting a lot of knitting, crocheting and reading done while he is gone. Here are a few books that are on the planned agenda.
'eclipse' by Stephenie Meyer
If you have not read this series, then I would highly suggest going out and purchasing the three book set. The fourth and final installment of this series will be out this coming August.
The series is a riveting vampire love saga. It's deliciously wonderful reading.

'The Art of Racing in the Rain' by Garth Stein

I've been hearing alot about this book. When I investigated it further I knew it was just something I had to read. It's a story told by Enzo, a family dog. A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope. This book is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life ...as only a dog could tell it.

'Sundays at Tiffany's' by James Patterson

What if your imaginary friend from childhood was your one true love? Need I say more about this book? It's a heartrending love story that surpasses all expectations of why these people have been brought together.

'The Last Lecture' by Randy Pausch

'We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand." - Randy Pausch

In this book, Randy Pausch has combined the humor, inspiration, and intelligence that made his lecture such a phenomenon and given it an indelible form. It is a book that will be shared for generations to come.

What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance?

*****

These are just a few books that are on my reading table right now. Between reading these and my knitting I think I'll be a little content while dear sweet hubby is gone.

*********

One final note ....remember my ranting in regards to my somewhat messy, but somewhat organized work space. Well, I decided that I didn't need to tackle it all, just bits and pieces. I decided that every week I would tackle just a corner or just a drawer. Anything that hasn't been used or touched in two years is out of there. Thus ....

My first purge of the workspace. AHHHHHHHHHHH, I feel better all ready. It's made a huge improvement. I actually got my reading chair back into my space. Once it's a little cleaner ...I'll show some pics. In the meantime, I'll just keep tackling one area at a time. Thank you for all for your kind words that you gave to me under my post 'Self-Indulgent Talk'. It has done me a world of good to hear all your good thoughts. Thank you! Now I'm off to do a little reading and knitting!

  1. Hello Alice! I too miss my hubby when he travels away... but it is oh so delicious to have the time to myself... to follow my own rhythm, and just be... and the homecoming is ever so sweet!

You've got some good reading ahead of you! If you need more, look up Garden Spells and the Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen and a Rather Lovely Inheritance by C A Belmond.

And... congratulations on your workspace clear out!!! Doesn't it feel fantastic!!!

Enjoy this time, this retreat that you have for the next two weeks! XO

  8. Hi Alice, I sympathize with you, I miss my husband when he is gone also. It is like I'm without the ying to my yang when he is away. I , like you, try to stay focused on getting some stuff done that I wouldn't normally do. I hope your two weeks flys by quickly.

  12. Good for you in tackling the organizing job, it's a great feeling when you see progress being made.

I always feel discombobulated when my husband travels for work, too, which is relatively frequently. I stockpile books, projects, special chocolate, a DVD I've not seen, recipes to try while he's gone, and other assorted things to comfort me during his absence. All this goes into a pretty-papered box and since I forget what I put in there (getting old, I guess), finding them in my Comfort Box is always a fun surprise and keeps me busy so the time goes by seemingly faster. I really appreciate your book list.

I'd been wondering about the vampire series but wasn't sure about it--now you've convinced me to get them.

  14. Alice,
I've been catching up on your blog. I'm glad you're feeling more yourself. I've been in a funk myself. I've read Eclipse and I have Sundays at Tiffanys just waiting for me. I'll have to look for The Art of Racing in the Rain...sounds good. Also, I love Debbie Macomber's books. I can't believe you met her!
