Finding your niche?

Today I'm struggling with this question. I have so many creative things running through my mind, I just don't know what direction to run. I'm looking for my niche? Is there ever such a thing? According to Merriam Webster the definition is such...
1 a: a recess in a wall especially for a statue b: something that resembles a niche2 a: a place, employment, status, or activity for which a person or thing is best fitted b: a habitat supplying the factors necessary for the existence of an organism or species c: the ecological role of an organism in a community especially in regard to food consumption d: a specialized market

I have highlighted the two red areas that seem to pertain to me these days...can't seem to find my niche. Mark Twain once said: Find out where the people are going and get there first!

Here is a list of actions one can take to find their niche...
  • Draw up an intitial list of 10 of your interests
  • Scan your bookshelves, local bookstore or library to find reference books you might have or need
  • Pay attention to people you meet, their hobbies, their passions
  • Check your local bookstore and their magazines to see what interests are being catered to
There's more, and I could go on...bottom line I've done it all and I'm still searching for my niche. Perhaps it's not one particular niche that one must fine...perhaps it's just to follow most if not all your passions and to see where you will land. Perhaps one is suppose to have several niches, not just one. I will continue to search, and I will continue to question and just maybe one day find my niche.

With all this said, I must give a big thank you to Andrea over at http://truesouthernheart.blogspot.com/. She awarded me with a 'you make my day award'. I am humbled and inspired that she graced me with this award. It's my first blogland award, and came on a day that I'm comtemplating so many different things.

Thank you Andrea, you've made my day today!

  1. I think if you're an artist that enjoys many mediums then it's hard to pigeon hole you into one thing. (This is me) I am a Jack of all trade of sorts. I like paper, fabric, rubberstamps, paint, you name it. Depending on my whim I do what I'm inspired to do. Now if I'm not inspired to do anything that's another story. I feel like the art takes me where I want to go (most times). I LOVE that feeling you get when stuff just pours out of me and then I gotta make this of get that color...I get so excited and follow along. When the spirit is elusive I clean house organize my studio, look through my hoard and wait ....but that's another story. So go with what you're doing NOW and don't look back or too far ahead.

  2. It is hard to find your niche.
Go with the flow of what's happening that day.
Create in whatever mediium the heart tells you. Why should you have to stick to just one type of art work?

  4. There is no way I could say I have a niche... there are sooooo many things I'm interested in, and I've finally given up in finding a box I fit into!!! I think you said it really well here, follow your passions, not just one... You are an artist. That is a niche and covers sooooo much!!! So there's lots of room for you to create and change your mind any time you want. How many people get to say that about their heart passion and job???

I've not found my niche. I tend to follow my heart, so probably will not find a niche.
